No, the rocks are just there so he’ll have a non-flammable surface for the demonstration. Just common sense.

  2. shamwowwow says:

sucks, he didn’t even show the fresnel lens.

  3. filosofyphreak says:

he did not preheat or anything. this is legit for sure. its a freaking huge fresnel lens ppl of course it heats that fast lol

  4. badsaddamdotnet says:

i have done this. it did heat up to boil but not that quick not even close.

  5. 721787 says:

did u just fast forward the video?

  6. felixthemaster1 says:

    this video got featured?

  7. leonkillr says:

so how many of those till i can make a cup noodles?

  8. LizzyAston says:

could have been heated to begin with

    FUCK SHIT

It’s difficult to explain in a small number of words. The Wikipedia article “fresnel lens” explains it well.

A short answer is: Fresnel lens’ have curved bits, but they also have bits that are supposed to be flat. If the flat bits end up bent they don’t work very well.

  10. viva0la0utube says:

they hav to be bent or else how does it magnify??

  11. doktorfuture says:

water looked to be warm already. it started smoking sort of before, or right when, he put it under the light.

  12. laudiumWP says:

Does the heated rock underneath the water kinda add some heat? Maybe?

My comment was meant to inform others who may have read your comment. Also, you never bothered to claim you were a lighting guy. As a media professional, I sincerely hope I never end up working with you, whoever you are.

  14. bokabeed says:

Is this really a science lesson? Did anyone here NOT already know that you could do this with any kind of magnifying lens?

  15. bokabeed says:

Wow, really? No shit dude, I read his comment wrong obviously. Do you really think if a was a lighting guy, I wouldn’t know all of this bullshit you have written here??? You really did not need to go through the process of writing all of that.

  16. solidfreez1 says:

Fresnel stage lights are so named because they employ a fresnel lens. These lenses are used in other applications as well, including projection systems, other lighting systems, and solar systems. This video isn’t demonstrating a stage light, it is showing the effects of focusing the sun through a large fresnel lens.

  17. tommytowne says:

Room temperature is my favorite temperature!!!

  18. ductonius says:

You can get cheap Fresnel lenses at virtually any office supply store (Staples/Office Depot has them). They’re called ‘full page magnifiers’ or something like that. They’re used for reading. The only problem is many times they come slightly bent, but not always, so check them every so often and you’ll find flat ones.

If you have more money, you can buy replacement fresnel lenses for overhead projectors or big-screen TVs.

  19. bokabeed says:

A fresnel is a stage light, they aren’t cheap, and they are special kinds of lights, so you can’t just go pick one up.

  20. braiden218 says:

so, where can u get one of these fresnel lenses?

  21. Captain42x says:

That is really neat… but was the water at room temperature before you applied the lens?

  22. RamoneTalarico says:

    FAKE!
    KIDDING!!!

great vid, i would love to get one of those lenses

    WITCHCRAFT I SAY!

  24. ruiferreira89 says:

Unless you might need them for food. There’s no problem if you use resources responsibly.

  25. IdleGod says:

Wow, you have discovered lenses! Now maybe we can use them to magnify small objects, or correct human vision!
